Tips for Writing a Blog for Your Career College

Tips for Writing Career College Blog PostsCareer colleges that “get it” are already blogging, or are at least thinking about launching a blog in the near future. A blog allows prospective students to see the unique personality and atmosphere your college offers. A few more reasons your college would benefit from a blog is for search engine rankings and it the fact that it provides fresh, relevant content for your school’s various social media sites. The problem most schools have is developing new, fresh, relevant content. Below are some tips when writing a blog for your career college.

Focus on One Topic for Each Blog Post

Stay away from writing about broad topics. If you cover too much material in one post, what does that leave for the future? Instead, focus on one topic for each post. For example, student spotlight stories and graduate success stories that focus on one student or graduate and their personal story are great. Events on campus are great to write about, too, such as a career fair, open house, or BBQ. Be sure to include pictures from events around campus that will attract and engage readers. Just be sure to keep the blog posts short and sweet – you don’t want to lose the reader half way through!

Write Blog Posts with Prospective Students in Mind

Blog posts should not be written by your school’s PR or marketing department UNLESS they are writing a post based on an interview they had with a student or graduate. Prospects don’t want to be sold to, they want to get a feel for the school as a whole and learn about the experience other students and graduates have had. This is content relevant to them, which is a reason why they will keep reading. Are their photos on Facebook from an event you’re blogging about? If so, don’t forget to include a link to the album. Put yourself in the shoes of a prospective student… what would you want to see if you were searching for a school to attend?

Write Frequent Blog Posts

Your school should be posting AT LEAST one post a week (the more relevant posts, the better). Do keep in mind quality over quantity though. It’s better to have one great post a week rather than three non-relevant posts. Fresh, relevant content is what keeps readers engaged and drives people to your college’s website and social media sites. It’s also another way to stay ahead of your competition.

These are just  a few suggestions to get started. Remember, by having a blog for your career college, you’re engaging prospective students and driving more leads to your website. Always keep your college’s end results in mind when creating a strategy for your blog.
