5 Tips for Optimizing Your Landing Page
Many schools believe that they only need to drive traffic to their website and give little thought to what prospective students will encounter once they get there. Imagine that a student walks into your campus office and the first thing you do, before saying hello, is give them a 10 page pamphlet about the school’s history. Would you really expect them to read it?
By landing visitors on an unoptimized landing page, you’re essentially doing the same thing. Prospective students want to know what they’ll learn, how they’ll learn, and most importantly what the job perspective is.
Testing your landing page is the best way to get the most out of your visitors, but here are five easy steps to get you started on the right path:
• Make your form easy to fill out – The number one landing page mistake is not having a form or having unnecessary questions that make filling out the form a daunting task. For example, do you really need a home phone, cell phone and work phone number?
• Use visuals – Prospective students want to know what’s in store for them if they sign up at your school; show your students engaging in the class room and work environment.
• Testimonials – Social influence is a strong factor in choosing what school to go to. Get a few quotes from successful students and put them on your landing page. Heck, make a video and put that on there if you’re feeling tech savvy.
• Less is more – Your text should be concise and in bullet form wherever possible. Most visitors will only glance at the text and if they can’t read it in that time they’ll leave the page.
• Say thank you – Though it is technically after the visitor converts, make sure to say thank you by serving up a page that lets them know what to expect next. Link to your social media or blog articles to keep them engaged with your brand.
